Norton Utilities 2018
I’d rather have named this article as Computer Maintenance, because that’s what it actually is but it would have mislead people into thinking this might be some sort of antivirus program.
Which it isn’t. Instead Norton Utilities is a suite of tools aimed at keeping your desktop clean and tidy. If arranging files and shredding documents is the run of the mill routine
for maintaining physical work desks, you can safely assume that there’s a digital equivalent for each.
Rejuvenation comes from defragmetation
Norton Utilities features about fifteen… utilities that keep your file system in proper shape so that the computer boots up faster and has generally better performance at any task.
The Dashboard offers a general view of the system’s health. The 1-Click Optimization lets Norton Utilities to fix registry problems, resolve privacy risks, close unused applications and more.
Each procedure can be turned off in the Settings. The Dashboard also offers some quick links towards tools that should be used for for constant maintenance. It is good to note that you can create a System Restore point just before messing with registries.
You may be satisfied with just that, but in case you want to explore further, Norton Utilities (N.U.) has three types of tools that are grouped into Performance, Privacy, and Recovery.
Windows optimization can turn on or off certain aspects so that you can extract better performance or better appearance.
Besides clearing Windows and browser history, you can also Bleach Disks which means permanently deleting files that have been deleted using regular methods. There is also a Shred option which does the same for current files.
You may chose between 4 types of file shredding in the Settings. Deleting a document using Shred Files guarantees that nobody can recover it
Speaking of recovery, N.U. can recover lost files. That of course if they were not shredded or bleached beforehand.
In Recovery we also find tools to repair drives (concerning bad sectors) and find duplicate files. If you know that you made copies of entire file lists from one drive to another multiple times but now don’t have the time and patience to clear the duplicates, N.U.
can do that for you.
One of the best uses of Norton Utilities is the defragmentation tool. Unlike the standard issue Defrag from Windows, this one can defragment specific files, perform deep or quick defragmentations and can also perform the defrag during boot time, in order to have maximum coverage over files.
